In 2023, the forum entitled \u201cExtracurricular and Informal Learning Spaces for Children and Adolescents\u201d was hosted by the IWM in cooperation with the <em>Bundesministerium f\u00fcr Bildung und Forschung<\/em> (BMBF). The event brought together academics, practitioners, as well as policymakers and took place on September 26<sup>th<\/sup> at the Representation of the Federal State of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg and several BILAD members participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTraditional learning environments such as schools are not the only places where children and young people are educated. Learning processes also occur in various other settings, such as museums, zoos, maker spaces, cultural institutions, and even everyday surroundings. These out-of-school learning spaces often use innovative formats that prioritise interaction, experiential learning, and hands-on activities,\u201d explained <strong>Stephan Schwan<\/strong>, who delivered a keynote speech at the forum with the title \u201cExperiencing, exploring, experimenting \u2013 Extracurricular and informal learning spaces of 4<sup>th<\/sup> generation\u201d. The other keynote with the title \u201cBraking barriers: The concept of learning ecology can connect scholastic and informal learning spaces\u201d was held by <strong>Martin Storksdieck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4014\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote-800x450.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_keynote.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Further BILAD members took part in the Forums where impulses for education practice and politics arose: <strong>Peter Gerjets<\/strong> und <strong>Doris Lewalter<\/strong> participated in and conducted the Forum \u201cLearning\u201d, where a general introduction in informal education research and practice was given and interfaces between extracurricular and scholastic education were discussed. Another Forum \u201cExchanging and Participating\u201d concentrated on spaces with focus on encounter, dialogue and learning by exchange and was guided by <strong>Lorenz Kampschulte<\/strong>. And <strong>Christian Kuchler<\/strong> participated in the Forum \u201cExperiencing\u201d, which focused on spaces that make history tangible like, for example, memorials, and on historical learning resulting from visitors relocating themselves in historical situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4015\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.bilad.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Foto_Podium.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day <strong>Doris Lewalter<\/strong> und <strong>Martin Storksdieck<\/strong> participated in the concluding panel discussion concerning the question which potentials extracurricular learning spaces offer and the existing challenges.
